Below is a summary of how I entered, whether through a visa or another permitted route.
Prepare these before applying
I applied for the Chile visa before travelling to Canada. I filled out the application form online, chose Toronto as my interview location, and scheduled the interview there. The visa decision was made the same day — I was asked to deposit 40 USD and would receive the visa by email. I did the same and got my Chile visa.

The currency is the Chilean Peso (CLP). Cash is preferred at markets, small eateries, and rural guesthouses. Withdraw from ATMs for the best exchange rates. Amounts over $10,000 USD must be declared on arrival and departure.
The Atacama Desert and Andean regions reach elevations of 4,000-5,000 meters. Acclimatize gradually before visiting El Tatio Geysers (4,320m) or altiplanic lagoons. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and move slowly at high altitude. Coca tea can help.
Tap water is safe to drink in Santiago and most major cities. In rural areas and remote regions, use bottled or boiled water. Chile has high food safety standards compared to other South American countries.
Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia requires advance booking for campsites and refugios, especially during peak season (December-February). The W Trek and O Circuit are extremely popular. Book 3-6 months ahead for summer visits.
Chile stretches 4,300 km from the Atacama Desert to Patagonia. Pack for multiple climates: sunscreen and light layers for the north, waterproof and windproof gear for Patagonia. Weather in Patagonia changes rapidly; bring layers for all conditions.
Chile produces world-class wines, especially Carmenere (the signature grape), Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc. The Maipo, Colchagua, and Casablanca valleys near Santiago offer excellent winery tours. Many offer tastings for $10-20 USD.
