Citizens from over 90 countries including the US, UK, EU nations, and Australia can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days. Your passport must have at least 6 months validity. Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival, which replaces the old paper TM6 form.
The currency is the Thai Baht (THB). ATMs charge about 220 THB per foreign withdrawal. For the best exchange rates, use Superrich Thailand exchange booths in the city rather than airport counters, which offer 10-15% worse rates. Request smaller denominations (100 and 500 baht notes) as the 1,000 baht note is hard to break at small vendors.
Use Grab (ride-hailing app) for safe, metered rides. In Bangkok, the BTS Skytrain and MRT metro are fast and air-conditioned. Always insist taxis use the meter. Tuk-tuks are fun but pricier, so agree on a fare before getting in. For island travel, book ferries through direct operator websites rather than third-party agents.
Buy a local SIM card from AIS, DTAC, or TrueMove at the airport arrivals hall. Tourist SIM packages with unlimited data for 7-15 days cost around 300-600 THB. AIS generally has the best coverage nationwide including islands.
Cover your shoulders and knees when visiting temples. Remove shoes before entering temple buildings and homes. Never touch anyone's head, point your feet at people or Buddha images, or disrespect the Thai Royal Family, which is a serious criminal offense. The national anthem plays at 8am and 6pm daily; stand still during it.
Thai street food is generally safe and delicious. Look for stalls with high turnover and food cooked fresh to order. Avoid pre-made food that has been sitting out. Drink bottled or filtered water only, and avoid ice from unknown sources, though most tourist-area restaurants use purified ice.
The cool, dry season from November to February is the most pleasant time to visit most of Thailand. March to May is extremely hot (35-40 degrees Celsius), and June to October is the rainy season with heavy afternoon downpours, though prices and crowds are lower.

📍 Bangkok
Start at the Grand Palace and adjacent Wat Phra Kaew to see the Emerald Buddha, then walk to Wat Pho for the massive Reclining Buddha. Cross the Chao Phraya River by ferry to explore Wat Arun at sunset. End the evening at Yaowarat Road (Chinatown) for pad thai, mango sticky rice, and grilled satay from street stalls.

Visit the Chatuchak Weekend Market with over 15,000 stalls selling everything from vintage clothing to handmade crafts. Take the BTS Skytrain to the Jim Thompson House museum for traditional Thai architecture. In the evening, explore the rooftop bars along Sukhumvit Road or catch a Muay Thai bout at Rajadamnern Stadium.
📍 Chiang Mai
Fly to Chiang Mai and explore the Old City moat area on foot, visiting Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh. Drive up Doi Suthep mountain to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep for panoramic views of the city. In the evening, browse the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar for hill tribe handicrafts, wood carvings, and sample khao soi (northern Thai coconut curry noodle soup).

Visit the Elephant Nature Park for an ethical half-day experience feeding and bathing rescued elephants. In the afternoon, explore the Baan Tawai handicraft village or take a Thai cooking class where you shop at a local market and learn to make green curry, tom yum, and papaya salad. End with a traditional khantoke dinner with Thai dance performance.
📍 Phuket / Krabi
Fly to Phuket or Krabi and take a longtail boat tour of the Phi Phi Islands, stopping at Maya Bay and snorkeling at Pileh Lagoon. Alternatively, visit Railay Beach accessible only by boat with world-class rock climbing and Phra Nang Cave Beach. Wrap up with fresh grilled seafood at a beachside restaurant in Ao Nang watching the sunset over the Andaman Sea.
